Dfree® began as an initiative of Dr. DeForest B. Soaries, Jr. to help stem an epidemic of overspending and to close the wealth gap in the African American community. It has since grown into a lifestyle movement that allows participants to handle their financial responsibilities, the willingness to help others do the same, and the capacity to leave assets for future generations.
As a leading faith-based, culturally relevant wealth-creation system specifically designed with diversity in mind, Dfree® delivers access to financial freedom through various tools to educate, motivate and support people who choose to achieve and sustain financial freedom.
One of the foundational pillars of Dfree® is economic justice in America. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “We must never let it be said that we spend more for the evanescent and ephemeral than for the eternal values of freedom and justice.” Our team and our content emphasize the importance of controlling money matters so that individuals have the freedom to focus on more purposeful pursuits.
Dr. DeForest B. Soaries, Jr. is the President and CEO of Corporate Community Connections, Inc., a company that assists corporations in expanding and improving their Corporate Social Responsibility efforts. In July 2021, he retired from 30 years of ministry as the third Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens (“FBCLG”) in Somerset, New Jersey. His pastoral ministry focused on spiritual growth, educational excellence, economic empowerment, and faith-based community development.
In 2005, Dr. Soaries launched the Dfree® Financial Freedom Movement to teach people how to break free from debt as the first step toward financial freedom. Dr. Soaries and his team were featured in a 90-minute CNN documentary called “Almighty Debt.” Dr. Soaries has written 12 books, including “Say Yes to No Debt” and “Say Yes When Life Says No,” and he is the host of “For Your Soul,” a weekly radio show on SiriusXM Urban View.
Dr. Soaries is an Independent Director at Independence Realty Trust, Ocwen Financial Corporation, and the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York. He also serves as a Trustee of RWJ Barnabas Health.
Dr. Soaries earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fordham University, a Master of Divinity Degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from United Theological Seminary. In 2018, Dr. Soaries was inducted into The Martin Luther King Jr. Board of Preachers at Morehouse College.
Dr. Soaries resides in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey, with his wife, Donna, and twin sons.
